Alien vs. Predator (often abbreviated AvP) is a science-fiction / horror fiction series spanning several forms of media. The series is a crossover between two popular movie series about extraterrestrial beings: Alien (whose aliens are known as "Xenomorph") and Predator (whose aliens are known as the "Yautja"); in Alien vs. Predator, the two species are in conflict with one another, because of human actions. The idea for such a crossover is often thought to have originated from a Xenomorph skull seen as a Predator's trophy in Predator 2, but Dark Horse Comics published their first Alien vs. Predator story in November 1989, a year before the November 1990 release of Predator 2.
The Alien vs. Predator universe currently consists of several computer/video games, some comics, several books, and a movie.
Alien vs. Predator works
- Alien vs. Predator (film) - The AvP movie, released mid-2004
- Alien vs. Predator 2 - The sequel to the AVP movie, scheduled to be released August 10, 2007
- Alien vs. Predator (comics) - The comic book series.
- Alien vs. Predator (novels) - The sci-fi novel series.
- Alien vs. Predator (arcade game) - The arcade side-scrolling game.
- Alien vs. Predator (video game) - The console games, ranging from the arcade to SNES versions.
- AVP (mobile) - The mobile game.
- Aliens versus Predator (computer game) - The two computer games, Aliens versus Predator and Aliens versus Predator 2 (and related expansion packs, re-releases, etc.). The games use the plural form of "Alien" in their names and "vs." written out.
